“How long will my tattoo take?”

Most of the time, they’re talking about the appointment.

But I think a tattoo starts long before someone sits in my chair.

Some tattoos happen almost instantly.

Someone walks in with an idea they’ve carried for years. We refine it, choose the placement, and it’s done.

Other tattoos take months.

Not because the design is difficult.

Because the person isn’t ready yet.

There’s No Deadline for Something Permanent

I’ve had people message me, disappear for six months, and then come back.

Not because they forgot.

Because they were waiting until it felt right.

Sometimes life gets busy.

Sometimes the meaning changes.

Sometimes people simply need more time to be sure.

And I never see that as a bad thing.

If anything, it usually leads to a tattoo they love even more.

Good Decisions Don’t Need to Be Rushed

We’re surrounded by a culture that tells us to decide quickly.

Buy now.

Book now.

Don’t miss out.

But tattoos are different.

If you need another week to think about it, take it.

If you want to sleep on the placement, do it.

If something doesn’t feel completely right, I’d rather we change it than ignore that feeling.

There’s no prize for getting tattooed the fastest.

Sometimes the Design Evolves Too

One conversation becomes two.

A flower becomes a bouquet.

A single word becomes a handwritten note.

A tiny symbol becomes part of a much bigger story.

The best designs don’t always arrive fully formed.

Sometimes they grow alongside the person wearing them.

The Tattoo Isn’t Going Anywhere

One thing I always remind clients is this:

Your tattoo will still be here next week.

And next month.

If waiting helps you feel more confident about your decision, then waiting is worth it.

I’d much rather tattoo someone who’s excited and certain than someone who’s feeling rushed.

My Favourite Appointments

The appointments I remember most aren’t always the biggest pieces.

They’re the ones where someone sits down and says,

“I’ve been thinking about this for years.”

There’s something special about helping bring an idea like that to life.

You can tell it isn’t just ink.

It’s a memory.

A milestone.

A promise.

Or simply a reminder of who they are.
