There’s a Lot of Misinformation Around Tattoos
If you’re getting tattooed for the first time — or even your fifth — you’ve probably heard a mix of advice, warnings, and random “facts.”
Some of them are true.
A lot of them aren’t.
Let’s clear a few things up.
Myth 1: Tattoos Are Extremely Painful
Truth: They’re uncomfortable, not unbearable.
Pain depends on placement, your tolerance, and the design. Most people describe it as scratching or a burning sensation — not something they can’t handle.
And your body adapts within minutes.
Myth 2: You Can’t Function Normally After a Tattoo
Truth: You can go back to your routine — with a few precautions.
You just need to avoid excessive sweating, friction, and direct sun exposure for a short period. Basic care goes a long way.
Myth 3: Fine Line Tattoos Don’t Last
Truth: They last — if done correctly.
The key is proper spacing, technique, and placement. A well-done fine line tattoo ages well, just like any other style.
Myth 4: You Should Drink Alcohol Before a Tattoo
Truth: Definitely not.
Alcohol thins your blood, which can affect the tattooing process and healing. It’s always better to come in well-rested and hydrated.
Myth 5: You Can Copy Any Design You Like
Truth: Good tattooing is always customised.
References are fine, but directly copying doesn’t always work — especially because every body and placement is different. A design should be adapted to you.
Myth 6: Tattoos Fade Immediately
Truth: Tattoos soften over time — not disappear.
There’s a difference between fading and settling. With proper care, your tattoo will age naturally and still look good.
From My Chair at Morphology
Most confusion around tattoos comes from things people hear — not things they experience.
That’s why I always prefer explaining the process clearly before we start. It makes the whole experience easier, calmer, and a lot more enjoyable.
Final Thought
Tattoos aren’t as complicated as people make them sound.
Once you understand the basics, everything else becomes simple.
Ask questions. Take your time.
And don’t let myths decide something that’s yours.
